Aubert

The 2008 Lauren Chardonnay reminds of a hypothetical vintage blend of 2005 and 2007. I keep going back to how the site lifts this wine’s aromatics up to a level of pure hedonism. This 2008 Lauren is naturally clear with green chlorophyll tints on edge. Aromatics are classic Lauren with nuances of lemon-mineral, pear smoke with even some green tea like tones. The pronounced “old clone” aromatics of fruits and minerals give an organic sense of place. The bouquet is multi-faceted with hints of apple-baked goods and wet stones. The mouth feel presents a glycerin top note followed by an acid structure only found with these clones. The 2008 Lauren Chardonnay will age on a very slow path and by my assessment should drink well for 5-10 years. The wine has a slight hazy clarity showing our commitment to minimal interventional winemaking.

Wine Advocate

When I am tasting with Mark Aubert, it always seems to be that his personal favorite is the Lauren Vineyard. The 2008 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is a big, dense wine that tastes like concentrated lemon and citrus oils intermixed with quince, honeysuckle and white flowers. Drop in a few pebbles and gravel and you have a full-bodied, beautifully textured, dense, powerful Chardonnay that admirably matches finesse with a larger than life size. This 2008 should drink well for a decade.

International Wine Cellar

Bright yellow. More leesy complexity on the nose than the Hyde & Sons is showing today, along with aromas of stone and citrus fruits, baking spices and green tea. A step up in richness and depth, but with captivating lemony lift to the glyceral flavors of beeswax and pear. Finishes long and suave, with firm acids giving the wine excellent grip and lift.

Score: 95. —Stephen Tanzer, May 2010.

Wine Spectator

Remarkable for its delicacy, finesse, grace and nuance, medium- to full-bodied, with complex pear, fig, hazelnut and melon flavors that gain depth and nuance, ending with a subtle mix of complex flavors. Drink now through 2014.

Score: 93. —James Laube, June 30, 2010.
