Culler

In the blend, the Cabernet Sauvignon provides the varietal character, depth, and structure of the wine, while Petite Verdot contributes the deep color and thick mid-palate. Blended together, the wine has the rich balance of fruit with blackberry, cassis and tobacco with subtle hints of vanilla and continues with a long and lush finish. The 2009 wines are big wines with plenty of extract for aging but also balanced as young wines. They should age beautifully for the next 10-15 years.

Wine Advocate

Black cherries, plums, tobacco and grilled herbs jump from the glass in the 2009 La Palette. A gorgeous, sumptuous wine, the 2009 impresses for its silkiness and total finesse. The balance of fruit, acidity and tannin is superb. With air, the 2009 can be enjoyed now, but there is more than enough energy to allow it to be cellared for up to a decade. The 2009 is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

Score: 93. —Antonio Galloni, December 2012.

Wine Spectator

Firm, elegant, refined and well-proportioned with a tight mix of crushed rock, dried dark berry and spicy, creamy oak, ending with a pleasant earthy aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024. 154 cases made.

Score: 90. —James Laube, October 31, 2012.
