Rodney Strong

Structured, full-bodied with very concentrated dark fruit flavors, mature tannins, rich middle body and a long, luxurious finish.

Wine Advocate

The dense purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits aromas of damp earth, blue and blackberries, and hints of graphite and underbrush. The wine is nuanced and harmonious with admirably integrated acidity, sweet tannin, and wood. It should drink nicely for 10-15 years.

Score: 91. —Robert Parker, December 2008.

Wine Spectator

Vibrant and concentrated, with aromas of loamy earth, dried currant, graphite, mineral and fresh earth, ending with a return to red cherry and plum themes and a clean, focused finish. A step up in quality for this producer. Best from 2009 through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Score: 90. —James Laube, December 15, 2008.

Wine Enthusiast

Dark, rich, tannic and elaborately detailed, this Cab, an inaugural release from the winery, shows dramatic weight and intensity of black currant fruit. It’s also rich in smoky new oak. If size alone were everything, it would be a perfect wine. As it is, it overwhelms the palate with power, and it’s hard to imagine what to pair with it at the table. Seems designed for the cellar, but it’s a guess. Tasted twice.

Score: 90. —Steve Heimoff, December 31, 2008.
