Big Basin Vineyards Mandala Syrah 2005
The 2005 Mandala is a combination of selected barrels from our Rattlesnake Rock Vineyard and the Fairview Ranch Vineyard. The Rattlesnake Rock fruit provides structure and complexity and the Fairview balances it out with silky tannins and wildberry fruit. A full bodied and mouthcoating wine with red fruit, liquorice, rose petals, cigar box and a hint of white pepper on the nose, with wild raspberry, rhubarb, and spicebox carried by soft tannins and a sustained finish. Wine Advocate The 2005 Syrah Mandala possesses more intense fruit, not the complexity of the Rattlesnake Rock, but is just as good because of the sweetness, purity, and overall harmony of its elements. With superb purity, an expressive style, and loads of soul and character, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 10-12 years. Impressive Syrahs are being fashioned by proprietor Bradley Brown from his Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards. Unfortunately, quantities are limited for these cuvees (less than 100 cases of the Mandala and about 350 of the Rattlesnake Rock).
