Toto, we're not in CA anymore! True, every wine hints at its provenance but none profess its roots as clearly and beautifully as our Stoney Vine Syrah. Our love affair with The Rocks District began nearly a decade ago, drinking the incredible class-defining Rhones that this small corner of the Walla Walla Valley produces. In crushing our 2013 Stoney Vine, we realized a pipe dream, years in the making, and could not be more thrilled with the alluring, complex wine that resulted. An exotically herbaceous bouquet welcomes you, accented by subtle undertones of smoky tar and heightening green peppercorn. Though Stoney Vine lies as far as you can possible get from cool Pacific Coast in Washington State, there is an unexpected brininess that refreshes the nose and accents the dominant, dark flavors on your palate. Intense umami essence defines this Syrah, while edgy graphite and intense Asian spices warm your palate, leading to a finish that will stay with long after you kill the bottle. And while we do not hesitate to enjoy the 2013 Stoney Vine every chance we get, this wine will undoubtedly outlive any California Syrah currently tucked away in your cellar. We are Napa Valley through and through, but when it comes to Rhones, we left our hearts in The Rocks.

This winery's Walla Walla Valley debut displays aromas of ash, green olive, grilled asparagus, dried flowers, smoked meat and blue fruit. The smoke and savory flavors are soft and reserved in style, showing a pleasing persistence on the finish.

Broad and expressive, not weighty but filled-out, with a spicy black olive and mineral cast to the plum flavors, lingering easily on the polished finish. Drink now through 2021. 140 cases made. -HS
