Arkenstone Estate Red 2015
The Arkenstone Estate Cabernet Blend (formerly known as Obsidian) consists entirely of fruit from our Howell Mountain Estate ranging from 1400’ to 1650’ on the western shoulder of the mountain. Each year the blend is comprised of the top performing blocks from 16 of our 22 blocks dedicated to the Estate Cab Blend. By having complete control over the vineyard we are able to begin to shape the wines while on the vine. Once picked, we process all of our fruit here at Arkenstone where the grapes are sorted and fed by gravity down into our fermentation hall. As the grapes come in, all lots are kept separate to ferment and age individually. Once the wines have aged about 11 months in barrel by lot we will begin to make our blend. Once blended the wine will go back into barrel for an additional 11 months and then into bottle for an additional year before release.
Deep purple/black with a bright ruby rim, the color of this wine gives an indication of the richness and complexity to follow. The leather, coffee and earth on the nose, are joined by soft violet, rose petal, Marello cherry, Black current and orange rind as the wine opens up. Pomegranate, red cherry and lush cranberry give way to black cherry, mocha and tobacco on the mid-palate. An extremely long finish hints at baking spices, dark chocolate and dried cherries with bright acidity balanced with focused, elegant tannins.

Composed of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 4% Malbec, the 2015 Proprietary Red Estate gives a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of spiced blackberries, fruitcake and plum pudding with suggestions of Indian spices, earth and underbrush, plus a touch of violets. Packed with rich, opulent fruit in the full-bodied mouth, it has a solid, fine-grained backbone and plenty of freshness, finishing long and multilayered. 500 cases were made.
