Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvée 2014
Winemaker Notes :
The genius of Mountain Cuvee is its approachable quaffability without sacrificing complexity—and for an affordable price!Pleasantly inviting with heady fruit aromas of blueberries, raspberries, and pomegranates lifted by vanilla and spice. The light-medium body has a touch of tannin, integrated acidity, and carries more fruit with layers of earth, warm oak, and mocha slowly revealed on the long finish. This is a wine to be casually enjoyed or slowly contemplated.
Blend: 56% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot
The Tasting PanelDark and rich with ripe blackberry and spice; smooth and juicy, tangy and long. 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec.
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Mountain Cuvee is a blend of 56% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec and 1% Petite Verdot. Deep garnet purple in color, it is scented of ripe plums, black currants, spice box and dried Mediterranean herbs. The full-bodied palate provides plenty of mouth-filling black fruit and spice flavors, with velvety tannins and ample freshness, leading to a long, relatively uncomplicated finish. Great value!
Wine EnthusiastThis hearty blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot is a great go-to wine for a crowd. Cabernet leads the way with cedar, cranberry and tobacco notes, clipped by sizable tannin. As it opens, layers of dense raspberry and vanilla flavors unfurl.
