Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2015
|Region||France, Rhone, Chateauneuf-du-Pape|
|Brand||Clos Saint Jean|
In a 41 hectare estate, there is only 1 hectare of white varieties: Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne in roughly equal proportions. The Grenache and Clairette is pressed directly into tank upon reaching the cellar where it is fermented and aged on its lees. The Roussanne is harvested in several passes and pressed into French oak for fermentation and aging. The final wine is blended and bottled in the spring after the harvest.
Distinctive, with a bright yellow apple note leading the way, backed by lots of verbena, chamomile and honeysuckle notes before a creamy melon edge drapes the finish. Shows lovely range. Drink now through 2018. 100 cases imported.
Pale yellow. Vibrant, mineral-laced aromas of orange zest, green apple, nectarine and white flowers, plus a spicy ginger accent. Taut and energetic on the palate, offering intense, mineral-driven citrus and orchard fruit and honeysuckle flavors complemented by a refreshingly bitter quinine note. Finishes with excellent clarity and solid thrust, leaving floral and bitter pear skin notes behind.
The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc is a step up over the 2014 and offers terrific notes of stone fruits, pears and apple blossom in a medium to full-bodied, fresh, lengthy and elegant style.
