Belle Glos Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017Winemaker Notes The Spanish term 'Las Alturas' means 'the heights', a fitting name for this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine bearing all the hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full-bodied and balanced by a firm acidity. Deep garnet in color with an aromatic medley of black cherry, marionberry, ripe plum and a hint of anise. Dark fruit on the palate with flavors of wild berries, caramelized oak and cacao nibs complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, cedar and a hint of lavender and forest floor. Rich and unrestrained, this wine’s abundant fruit is beautifully balanced by firm acidity and layers of red and black fruit.
Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett Riesling 2017Winemaker Notes: This wine shows a pronounced bouquet of very ripe red and yellow fruits, with exotic and slightly spicy notes, with well-integrated acidity. The slatey minerality so typical of the Mosel adds further complexity. Matches delicate foods excellently. Try this wine with veal, shellfish, roasted poultry or fish.
Franciscan Estate Equilibrium Red 2014Winemaker Notes: Our Equilibrium red blend is a rich, fruit forward, unique wine that's so easy to enjoy. Equilibrium means to come together in a state of harmonious balance. We brought together the juicy, ripe fruit flavors of Zinfandel, added some dark, peppery Petite Sirah, and complemented it with rich, soft, mouth-filling Malbec and Syrah. The combination is irresistible - so soft and luscious, it's hard to pull yourself away! A very round palate and abundance of vibrant fruit flavors enables it to pair beautifully with a range of foods, from spicy barbeque to burgers to salmon. Or have it on its own and savor the velvety mouthfeel.
Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 1995Winemaker's Notes : Dark ruby color, ripe black currants, violets and vanilla, spicy, oaky scents. The wine has great finesse and a particular softness imparted by the Merlot. It tends to be firm yet delicate and supple, great elegance develops with age.
Georg Albrecht Schneider Niersteiner Hipping Spätlese Riesling 2015Winery Note: Hints of pine frond, earth and smoke entice on the nose of this unusual, remarkably well-priced Riesling. Semi-sweet in style, it’s rich and creamy on the palate with luscious peach and grapefruit flavors. It’s surprising nuanced too, exposing layers of steel, crushed mineral and acid that meld beautifully through a long finish.
Bodegas y Vinedos Valderiz Ribera del Duero 2015#26 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2018 Winemaker Notes : Very dark, black currant color with rich and robust blue fruit on the nose. McGah Family Cellars Scarlett Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Winemaker Notes: Flirting with perfection, the 2016 McGah Family Cabernet Sauvignon is a seamless, flawless and a compelling Rutherford beauty. Unbelievable complexity and layers intermingle with aromas of berry compote, cassis with a black cherry core that jumps from the glass. The mid palate is a silky flow of abundant blue and black fruits, followed with an opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel. The integrated structure and polished tannins carry through to a detailed and long finish. This blend from five of our Cabernet Sauvignon blocks on the estate showcases what an amazing terroir the McGah Family Vineyard is. Allow two to three years for it to mellow out or enjoy it in its prime five to ten years out. It’s an absolute pleasure to release this wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel 2017Winemaker Notes: I am incredibly proud of this wine. I have said it here before but it bears repeating—even though this is one of the least expensive wines we make, in many ways it is the most important. First, it is the one Bedrock wine that trickles out to most markets, so if someone gets introduced to our wines, there is a good chance it is this one. As such, it has to be reflective of the style we place value on. Second, this is the wine that allows us to rehab old vineyards by giving us a place to put the fruit while we upgrade farming, pruning, and soil health; at an average of 80 years of age, these lovely old vines appreciate the attention. Third, we now farm over 50% of the fruit that goes into this bottling, which allows us to make the hard farming decisions (dropping fruit, picking in multiple passes, etc.) to ensure we get the quality we need. Fourth, it is a statewide blend of vines, which means we can flex towards the strengths of a vintage. In 2017 we were able to put extra focus on the great quality in Contra Costa County (27%), Dry Creek (12%), Sonoma Valley (17%), Alexander Valley (11%), and Lodi (10%) to create a delicious, balanced and juicy wine. Fifth, we want this wine to spread the gospel of Zinfandel from California, and as such this sees fruit from great sites such as Evangelho, Bedrock, Nervo Ranch, Teldeschi Ranch, Sodini and Pato Vineyard. The final wine is roughly 86% Zinfandel, 5% Petite Sirah, and 5% Carignan, with the balance being Alicante Bouschet and all the other crazy and lovely field-blended varieties found in our old vineyards. Drink 2019-2030.
Arkenstone Sauvignon Blanc 2015Winery Notes: The Arkenstone Estate Sauvignon Blanc originally planted in 1997 is grown in 6 different very steep, very rocky, vineyard blocks on our Howell Mountain Estate. Choosing to plant only in the perfect patches of nutrient lacking, well-drained, white volcanic soils we are able to grow very concentrated, rich, but balanced, beautiful Sauvignon Blanc. Along with the Sauvignon Blanc in the lower part of our vineyard, we also farm a small block of Semillon which is blended with our Sauvignon Blanc. The percentage of Semillon will change each vintage, but the results are always consistent. The Semillon adds beautiful floral aromatics along with a bigger mid-palate that seamlessly complements and integrates with the Sauvignon Blanc's natural notes of melon, citrus, and minerality. From our rigorous farming practices to winemaking to our final blend, this wine is very much our tip of the cap to the classic white wines of Bordeaux. As with all 13 acres of our Arkenstone Estate, the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are both farmed exclusively in-house using only organic farming techniques overseen by Winemaker Sam Kaplan.
Torrin Vineyard The Banshee 2015Winery Notes: Of all the wines in our lineup, the Banshee may be the most vivid representative of the Rhone Varietal movement that has catapulted the credibility of the Paso Robles AVA. At 40% Syrah, 35% Grenache, and 25% Mourvedre, the Banshee weaves together a magnificent tapestry of rich dark fruit, floral highlights and layers of dried herbs and earth capturing the true essence of Rhone.
Anakota Helena Montana Knights Valley 2015Tasting Notes: Bay leaves, alder, cigar, sweet leather with toasted cinnamon and silky tannins.
Macphail The Flyer 2016Winemaker Notes: Every wine I put in the bottle is made with the same approach – capture all the potential in the glass without having to augment or subtract. I believe less intervention in the cellar makes a better wine. My goal is to craft a seamless wine where every component is in balance. I approach every wine with precision – the vineyard brings all the complexity and the oak should simply be the background and support the fruit not take the lead role. It is easy to be seduced by the bright hues and youthful nature of The Flyer – fresh berries, smoky notes and earth tones lead the aromas on this classic Sonoma Coast blend. Rich and dense upon entry, there is a ton of complexity and provocative layers of black fruits – specifically dried cherries and black raspberries that are supported by beautiful acidity and silky tannins. A hint of vanilla oak sweetness shows through a lengthy and persistent finish.
Saintsbury Donnelly Creek Pinot Noir 2014Winery Notes: Aroma opens with brooding plum and briar, with lingering floral and spice notes. A dense entry of dark cherry, bittersweet chocolate, spice and chanterelle. Pairing: Wild boar ragout or lemon-rosemary roasted vegetables with lentils.
McPrice Myers High on the Hog 2016Winemaker Notes : Aromas of smoky plum, mocha, licorice, and black raspberries. On the palate, Rainier cherry, boysenberry, dark chocolate, brown spice, lush tannins and a long, supple finish. Enjoy with Korean short rib tacos.
Scarlett Wines Petit Verdot 2015Winery Notes: The McGah Family Vineyards Petit Verdot block produced a prodigious and compelling wine in 2015. Dark violet in color followed by an intense set of aromas consisting of dark, heady fruit, cedar, and sandalwood spice. The mid-palate consists of firm but perfectly integrated acidity along with a ripe, rich and highly concentrated Rutherford fruit. A beautiful streak of anise runs right through the middle leading to a long and highlighted finish. Consistent with the nature of this varietal, the tannins are forefront, but a have a measure of finesse and polish allowing this wine to be enjoyed in its youth. Drink now with a long decant or allow it to age for 6-10 years.
Sans Liege The Offering 2016Winery Notes: When you arrive the celebration is raging, much like the huge bonfire in the center of the crowd. You are met with scents of anise, mulling spices, kirsch and leather. A friend claps you on the back and hands you a bowl crafted from juniper proclaiming “wassail!” “Drink hail” you chorus with the rest of the group, taking a gulp and passing it on. Treats of olive tapenade and plums with cinnamon are shared as the merriment continues into the night.
Murphy Goode Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015Winemaker Notes : This wine has great varietal expression from the best of both worlds: Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Look forward to aromas and flavors of black cherry with just a hint of black licorice. The finish will add notes of chocolate, vanilla, and just a touch of toast. Great with charbroiled burgers or your favorite steak fresh off the grill. Blend: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot
Inkberry Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby with a vibrant purple edge. Ripe stewed plums on nose, with a touch prunes. Full bodied with ripe plums, sweet cassis fruits; juicy ripe mid palate sweetness, subtle oak adds texture and weight, fine, persistent tannins give the wine structure and length.
