Carlisle Piner-Olivet Ranches Zinfandel 2017
|Region||California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley|
Medium-dark to dark garnet-ruby. Intense aromas of cherry, cactus pear (tuna or higo chumbo in Spanish, I ate a lot of them as a child), pomegranate, and a subtle note of baking spice. Full-bodied but so well-balanced. Flavors of red and black fruits linger in the long and powerful finish. Compared to the ’16, slightly darker in profile yet this offers more immediate enjoyment. Drink this lip-smackin’ Zinfandel from release through 2026.
The 2017 Zinfandel Piner-Olivet Ranches, aged in 26% new oak, is medium to deep ruby-purple with aromas of pomegranate, rhubarb, cranberry and chocolate with warm earth, mixed berry preserves, nectarine tart and loads of spice and floral accents. The palate is medium-bodied, intense, firm and chewy with great freshness and a layered finish. 465 cases produced.
Dynamic and well-structured, with an intense core of boysenberry, dried sage and smoky sweet anise flavors, taking on power toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2026. 470 cases made.
