McPrice Myers Beautiful Earth 2016
Fresh blueberry, cardamom, hibiscus, and passion fruit lead off, with sweet tobacco, wood smoke, iron, and sweet herbs on the palate. The finish is rich and full. Enjoy with red wine braised pork shoulder and roasted root vegetables.

Jeb DunnuckAnother perennial winner, the 2016 Beautiful Earth sports a saturated purple color as well as terrific notes of blueberries, blackberries, ground pepper, and plenty of herbal, earthy nuances. This deep, layered, multi-dimensional Syrah from McPrice shows more gamey, bacon fat, and smoky notes with time in the glass and is one of the finest vintages to date for this cuvée. The blend is 72% Syrah, 18% Grenache, 7% Mourvèdre, and 3% Viognier, brought up in 15% new oak. This estate hit a home run with these latest 2016s, and the charming, more supple style of the vintage worked perfectly with the more savory, classic style preferred by McPrice Myers. These are unquestionably the finest wines I’ve tasted from him, and readers should snatch up these wines.
VinousOpaque ruby. Intensely perfumed, spice-tinged red and blue fruit, cola, incense and potpourri qualities on the nose. Lush, velvety and expansive in the mouth; bright acidity energizes densely packed black raspberry, blueberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Closes sappy, smooth and very long, displaying excellent focus, harmonious tannins and lingering florality.
Wine SpectatorBroad-shouldered, yet rich and polished, with layered currant, black olive and licorice flavors that build dynamically toward dense yet refined tannins. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Viognier. Best from 2020 through 2026. 538 cases made.
