Winery Notes:

Forward and ready to drink, vibrant aromas of blackberry pie, soy, iron filings and black currant are followed on the palate with lush flavors of cocoa powder, dark chocolate and hints of hoisin. Delicious and giving now, but will age easily for the next 5-7 years, it marries the best qualities of the 2015 and 2013 vintages. Cépage: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc.

Jeb DunnuckMoving to the 2017 barrel samples, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch is deep ruby/plum-colored and has a fruit-forward, sexy, full-bodied profile as well as beautiful complexity. It has sweet tannins and plenty of mid-palate depth, and I suspect it will drink nicely right out of the gate.

Wine AdvocateA barrel sample blended of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc aged in 100% new French oak, the 2017 Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored and profoundly scented of baked plums, Black Forest cake and warm cassis with hints of tar, licorice and tree bark plus a waft of garrigue. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy with beautiful freshness, lovely energy and a long crunchy finish. 350 cases are expected to be made.

VinousThe 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch from Tony Biagi's Patria label is dense, dark and explosive, with tremendous energy and textural richness. Plush fruit and silky, ripe tannins add to the wine's flamboyant personality. The 2017 is a big wine that is going to need time in barrel to shed some of its baby fat. Bright acids perk up the finish nicely. The 2017 has the potential to outshine the 2016, and that is saying a lot.
