Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Gallina 2014
|Region||Italy, Piedmont, Barbaresco|
|Brand||Cantina del Pino|
Dark fruit, spice, herbs and distinct mineral notes of crushed rock and salt-air lay over a palate of rich, fruit-forward joy.
Of Cantina del Pino's three single-vineyard expressions, the 2014 Barbaresco Gallina is the most muscular and powerful. This is a terrific effort with dark fruit nuances, followed by spice, balsam herb and very evident mineral notes of flint and crushed granite. Those mineral notes give a salty side to this wine that is already heavily identified by its rich, fruit-forward personality. I cannot imagine a better pairing partner to the traditional foods and meat dishes of Piedmont. Only 2,000 bottles were produced.
Dark spice, red fruit, tobacco and menthol aromas lead the way. Firmly structured and linear, the elegant palate delivers pomegranate, cranberry, licorice and a hint of espresso set against bright acidity and tightly wound fine-grained tannins. Drink 2022–2034.
