Quinta do Vale Meão Meandro Douro 2017
|Brand||Quinta do Vale Meão|
Winemaker Notes :
Quinta do Vale Meao Douro Meandro is a lively color. Floral scents combined with red fruit aromas. Fills the mouth with intense fruit notes, showing a long, very fresh and complex after taste.
Blend: 45% Touriga Nacional, 33 % Touriga Franca, 15% Tinta Roriz, 5% Tinta Barroca, 2% Alicante Bouschet
The second wine of the great Vale Meão estate in the Douro Superior, this is impressive in itself. A lifted violet note permeates the rich berry fruit. It is a rich, concentrated wine that should age further.
The 2017 Meandro do Vale Meão is a blend of 33% Touriga Franca, 45% Touriga Nacional, 15% Tinta Roriz, with Tinta Barroca and Alicante Bouschet for the rest, all aged for 14 months in used French oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. This was bottled a few weeks before tasting. Another 2017 with big flavor and expressive fruit, this also has a fresh feel, reasonable concentration and a beautiful, long finish. It adds admirable mid-palate finesse too. It sometimes seems a bit lighter and fresher, but its utterly gorgeous fruit takes this to a different level. It looks like a super Meandro, one of the best, and a fine bargain. It should age well.
Vinous red and black fruits, with a touch of bake, but still fleshy and motile. With bergamot lift, bitter chocolate and dynamic tannins, it has good structure, drive and intensity.
This wine shows good finesse and density to the boysenberry and ripe currant notes, detailed with savory spice, licorice and violet accents. Red plum and mocha hints chime in on the velvety finish. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2026. 17,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.
