Winery Notes:

Hirsch Vineyards is comprised of 72 acres, divided into 67 individual farming blocks, corresponding to the dramatic and sudden changes in soil and aspect created by the Fault. This degree of fragmentation is unmatched even by the famously subdivided vineyards of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. The vineyard has a fearsome diversity of soils, aspects, elevations and microclimates. This complexity defines our farming and winemaking practices: each block was individually developed and is now farmed, harvested and vinified separately.

2019 was another superb vintage for Sonoma, and the first vintage blended and bottled completely by Jasmine Hirsch as head winemaker. The ‘San Andreas Fault’ Estate Pinot Noir is the flagship wine from Hirsch Vineyards, the wine that represents the summation of their complex vineyard blocks which are individually farmed and vinified before becoming the final blend that is San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir. 100% estate, 100% Hirsch.

This is a fresh, salty, crisp and focused wine from the beautiful coastal site. It is stone-like in texture and brimming in sea air. Rose, raspberry, black tea and clove rise to the fore of the deft, silky palate, finding cohesion and grace.

Wonderful purity of fruit to this with ripe-strawberry, citrus and raspberry aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with very intense, powerful tannins that show strength and structure. Vibrant acidity. This needs time to soften.
