Latro takes its name from the Latin word for “hunter,” a reference to Knights Valley’s history as a private hunting reserve before the development of vineyards in the area. Hard, inhospitable mountain soils restrict root development, which creates smaller berries and lower yields that bring distinctively mineral notes to this 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The darkly handsome result is a charismatic and versatile wine with instant, irresistible appeal.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Latro is in the same ballpark yet has more savory characteristics as well as plenty of conifer, California bay leaf, currants, and loamy soil aromas and flavors. This full-bodied beauty has plenty of tannin, terrific purity of fruit, no hard edges, and a great finish. Give it a few years.
One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Latro Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon gives up notions of crushed red and black currants, warm plums and baked cherries with touches of garrigue, dusty soil and bay leaves. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with lovely freshness and great intensity in the mouth, leading to a long, purely fruited finish.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Latro, from vineyards in Knights Valley, is bright, precise and nuanced. This is an especially fruity, supple style for Knights Valley. Black cherry and plum fruit are nicely pushed forward in this soft, open-knit wine.
From several sites in the appellation, this 100% varietal wine is impressively taut and angular in style, with an herbaceous intensity. Made in a full-bodied lushness, it has generous toasted oak and a mix of concentrated red and black cherry.
