Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese 2019
The oldest recorded vineyards of the Nahe are located in this part of the village of Norheim. Kirsche means “cherry”, so the age-old name of the site likely refers to the wild cherries that grow even today amidst the vines.
This is a totally charming beauty with succulence that's hard to resist and mineral freshness that lifts the wine beautifully. Long, complex finish with multiple moments of tension. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.
View from the Cellar
The 2019 Norheimer Kirschheck Spätlese from Weingut Dönnhoff is utterly classical in profile and an outstanding wine. The bouquet is so precise and pure, jumping from the glass in a blaze of apple, pear, bee pollen, spring flowers, a lovely foundation of slate minerality and lilacs. On the palate the wine is crisp, refined and medium-full, with lovely intensity of flavor and bounce, zesty acids and outstanding focus and grip on the complex and perfectly balanced, seamless finish. A beautiful wine and tout en finesse. 2020-2060.
The 2019 Riesling Spätlese Norheimer Kirschheck is bright and elegant yet quite reductive at this early stage. Racy- piquant and pure on the palate, with tension, grip and elegance, this is a promising Spätlese, but it is completely shut down at the moment. Tasted as a sample in Bremen, April 2020.
