Georg Breuer Terra Montosa Riesling 2016
Bright pale yellow, enticing aromas of yellow fruits, lush savoury fruit aromas, loads of fruit; elegant play of fruit and acidity framed by mineral hints; lots of finesse and well-balanced; good ageing potential. The Latin name “Montosa” hints at the mountainous earth of the steep vineyard sites. Low yields of 35 hl/hectare.
An expansive white, featuring dried mango and lemon bar flavors, with accents of verbena and thyme. The minerality and texture provide an elegant mouthfeel. Powerful and fresh acidity give this firmness and focus. The finish is minerally, showing hints of coconut chips. Best from 2021 through 2030. 63 cases imported.
The 2016 Rheingau Riesling "Terra Montosa" is the "second wine" of the grand crus, although the grape quality is the same as for the grand crus. The decision about which vats become which wine is made after several tastings and with a clear focus on the expression of the terroir and vintage. The 2016 opens with a very clear, deep, intense and complex bouquet of crushed stones and concentrated stone fruits. The wine is round and creamy on the palate, rather soft and aromatic, very juicy and seductive. There are fine tannins and a mineral backbone, but this is a very sensual Riesling. Gorgeous.
