O'Shaughnessy Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum 2017
|Region||California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder|
Composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is opaque purple in the glass with deep, perfumed aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, rum raisin, and brown sugar. On the palate, it shows layers of dense berry preserves, wild bramble, and savoury tobacco tones with bright acidity and balanced tannins. This is a richly-textured and intense mountain wine that is rewarding upon release and will continue to evolve with patient cellaring.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder (100% varietal aged in 80% new barrels) offers more green tobacco, blackcurrants, graphite, chargrill, and piney/forest floor notes as well as a full-bodied, rich, beautifully textured style on the palate. It has classic Mount Veeder structure yet backs it up with gorgeous fruit and length. It needs to be hidden for at least 4-5 years and will keep for two decades.
A gorgeous and inviting wine, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mount Veeder) is defined by its bright aromatics and laser-like focus, both of which come through brilliantly. Freshly cut flowers, mint, chalk, white pepper, blood orange and red fruit all open up in the glass. This is one of the most nuanced wines of the year. The Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet, and those deeply expressive varietal notes are a big part of what makes it so distinctive.
Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 22 months in French oak, 80% new, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder sports a very deep purple-black color and gives up notes of crushed black cherries and blackberries with an undercurrent of raisin cake, espresso and dusty soil plus wafts of hoisin and sauteed herbs. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and elegantly played with soft, well-managed tannins and a lively line lifting the ripe, spicy black fruit preserves flavors, finishing with a lingering herbal lift. 897 cases were made.
