Dr. Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese 2019
Generally dry conditions throughout spring and summer led to a lower-yielding crop, which was further reduced by the onset of botrytis late in the harvest. It is a fully ripe vintage, with vibrant aromatics and a pronounced acidity that gives brilliant structural precision to the wines.
How can a wine be so succulent, yet so tightly wound? Serious concentration and a very long, spicy finish with stunning minerality. Drink or hold.
Light as a feather yet piercing and powerful, this zippy spätlese juxtaposes luminous gooseberry and white-peach flavors against streaks of lime and cut stone. Medium sweet in style, it’s an intensely ripe yet breathless, cutting wine that finishes long and pure. It is delicious already but should improve through 2035 and hold further.
A month after the bottling, the 2019 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese is still reductive on the bright and well-concentrated nose. Concentrated and sweet on the palate, with a juicy texture, this is an intense, dense and structured Spätlese based on super ripe and concentrated fruits. Excellent and substantial yet asking for patience. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
