Fragrant dark red and black fruits set the stage for the exotic interplay of aromatic woods, bow rosin and sharpened graphite. On the palate, a medley of black raspberry, blackcurrant and cranberry fill a warm graham cracker crust drizzled with nearly-molten brown sugar and flecked with dark chocolate. Like a chiseled and sinuous boxer sitting in his corner, the youthful and deep Staglin Cabernet is a wine of controlled power, poised while waiting to showcase its long, silky and fine-grained structure. Your patience will be immensely rewarded.
Sleek and polished, this is a textural triumph, with silky tannins and rich, well-defined flavors of dark berry, currant, cassis, mocha, cedar and road tar. Ends smooth and sophisticated. Drink now through 2032. 2,300 cases made.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a very pretty nose of fragrant earth, red and black currants, black plums and underbrush with hints of cigar box and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with expressive earth and black fruit flavors, supported by a seamless backbone of ripe tannins and great freshness, finishing long.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is classic in the vintage, and each of these releases from Staglin show their place of origin as well as the vintage beautifully. Loads of blueberries, violets, camphor, and forest floor notes all emerge from this ultra-fine, elegant, yet concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon that has beautifully integrated tannin, a great mid-palate, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's deceivingly approachable but is going to evolve for 20+ years given its incredible balance and purity.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, from Staglin's home Rutherford property, is bright and aromatically lifted, with a slightly redder expression of fruit and more floral overtones than the Booth-Bella Oaks. A wine with lovely inner sweetness, finesse and aromatics, the Estate peaks to polish above all else. Historically, this wine has developed very well in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well.
