Winery Notes:
Barolo Margheria has a garnet red colour. The nose is intense and complex, featuring fruity, floral scents and nuances of leather and fresh hay. It is deep and elegant on the palate, with pleasant tannins, typical of the Nebbiolo variety.

A charming red, detailed and fresh, featuring cherry, strawberry, currant, rose and mint flavors shaded by iron and tar. Tightly wound and compact, yet has terrific balance, pedigree and a persistent aftertaste. Best from 2026 through 2045. 500 cases made, 150 cases imported.

The 2019 Barolo Margheria is more savory/mineral in profile than the other Barolos in the range, with less overt fruit but plenty of persistence. In recent years, Giampaolo Pira has found a way to tame the formidable tannins here, and that is very much evident in this gorgeous, expressive Barolo.

Fermentation takes place in horizontal tanks at moderate temperature for 12-15 days, before ageing in large 25hl wooden barrels for 24 months. The austere nose shows restrained dark fruits, liquorice root, straw, and red currant freshness. It shows a soft attack then firm, extracted, fine-grained tannins; muscular and chewy and evident on the gums, but polished on the finish. A powerful wine that needs time.

Plenty of lavender and violet aromas with plum undertones. Medium to full body with plenty of ripe tannins and a chewy finish. Shows polish and focus. Drink after 2027.

Taking on more mineral character, the 2019 Barolo Margheria lifts with crushed rocks, white pepper, and red cherry. It has a bit more linear drive with its spine of acidity and offers notes of blood orange, grenadine, and dried roses. It is refreshing with angular tannins and has a long finish. Hold 3-5 years and drink 2026-2046.
