Winery Notes:
Ample dark berry fruits show on a relatively shy but inviting nose, with a plethora of subtle spice, herbaceous aromas and fine floral nuances. Blackberries and dark cherries follow through onto a layered palate, with bright flavours of brambles, mulberries and red liquorice, and hints of graphite minerality, cedar spiciness and a gentle sous-bois character, creating utter complexity. A pure, crystalline fruit profile is perfectly balanced with bright freshness, integrated acidity, and very fine-grained, cocoa-powdery tannins, all contributing to the wine's sublime structure and exceptional depth. The mid-palate is vibrant, textured and lithe with a classic Bordeaux nervosité and silkiness. Blueberries, nutmeg and cloves linger on a sappy, pure finish.

Aromas of blackcurrants, black cherries, suede and whole nutmeg. Full-bodied with fine, structured tannins. Broad shouldered but with elegant black fruit and a hint of oak laced in. Espresso, too. Layered and deep. Sustainable. Best after 2023.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Franschhoek is well defined on the nose, presenting blackberry, wild hedgerow and hints of black truffle intermingling with bell pepper aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins and fine acidity, quite austere toward the finish at the moment, yet fresh and simply needing bottle age. There is something almost Cabernt Franc about this blend, even though that variety comprises just 5% of the total. Still, this feels accomplished.

This is a well-structured spicy wine with fresh acidity and lots of fruit. It opens with aromas of meaty red fruit, green bell pepper and peppercorn. Chalky tannins support similar notes of spices and herbs on the palate. A core of plum and blackberry adds to its complexity. It finishes with sweet notes of fruit and tobacco.

The 2019 Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon presents tart and tangy dark red fruit aromas complemented by oak nuances. With a notable tannic profile, the wine concludes with a finish marked by a firm tannic edge. I recommend allowing this bottle to rest in the cellar for a few more years, allowing its flavors and textures to harmonize further and develop.
