Torbreck Descendant 2013

Torbreck Descendant 2013

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

The 2013 Vintage was one of high quality, with low yielding crops from the relatively dry winter providing intense deep concentration and structure. Descendant was picked on the 23rd February with clearly defined aromatics and a rich, supple fruit profile. Intense, dark berry fruits with an underlying perfume of violet, lavender and spice. Multi-layered, dense dark cherry and blueberry fruit is perfectly interwoven with nuances of cinnamon, tar, exotic spice and pepper. Full-bodied with great concentration, and silky tannins this suave wine has impeccable balance and a long future ahead of it.

Wine SpectatorThis is like biting into a perfect slice of warm blueberry or huckleberry pie, down to the buttery crust, with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla bean. The tannins are thick but velvety and polished, showing magnificent persistence. Shiraz and Viognier. Drink now through 2026. 500 cases made.

Wine EnthusiastFull bodied, creamy and rich, this wine will undoubtedly please Torbreck fans and provide another piece of ammo for critics. Tasted blind, I wrote, "Torbreck-like nose of lifted spice and stewed berries." There's a hint of mint as well. Mixed berries and brown sugar notes mingle easily on the palate, while a touch of dried fruit (not a positive) creeps in on the finish. Drink now-2025.

Wine AdvocateVery deep garnet colored with a touch of remaining purple, the 2013 Descendent has notes of black plums, blackberries and charcoal with touches of cedar, earth and dried Provence herbs. Full-bodied and full-on in the mouth, the behemoth of a wine offers a lot of black fruit and earthy flavors with just a touch of disappointing hardness to the tannins in the finish. It nonetheless has a lot to offer for those with a big-Shiraz craving.
