Morgan G17 Syrah 2014
Wine EnthusiastA screaming deal from Dan Lee and company, this dynamic Syrah shows plush blackberry, vanilla and caramel aromas. There's buoyant red and purple fruit on the palate, from boysenberry to black raspberry, kept fresh with lively acidity and accented with lavender and thyme.
Wine SpectatorLively and well-built, with spicy blackberry aromas and layered dark plum, bittersweet chocolate and grilled herb flavors. Drink now through 2024.
VinousInky ruby. Spice-tinged dark berries, licorice and pungent flowers on the nose, joined by a smoky nuance that builds with air. Shows very good energy and focus in the mouth, offering juicy blackberry and olive flavors and a subtle touch of cracked pepper on the back half. Closes sweet and long, displaying sneaky tannins and bright, peppery persistence. I was reminded a lot of a Crozes-Hermitage. These fruit-driven, generous, accessible wines are mostly built for early enjoyment but the reds also have the concentration and tannic structure to reward at least mid-term aging.
