Hugel Gentil 2015A kaleidoscope of grapiness, produced exclusively from hand harvested grapes in predominantly clay and limestone vineyards, from a dozen of the most favored localities in and around Riquewihr. Gentil "Hugel" allies the suave, spicy flavour of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of both Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.
Pont Neuf Pont Marie 2014Winemaker Notes: The "Pont Marie" Chardonnay is Douglas indulging me by letting me choose my own cuvee of two barrels from the Lancel Creek Vineyard and making it my namesake. What struck us about the wine was it's minerality and finesse. Textural, intricate and subtle but not shy in flavor and extremely fragrant. The élevage is identical to the other wines. The barrels differed slightly in that they were very long slow toast, a method preferred by one of our favorite coopers

G.B. Crane Vineyard Disciples 2015Dark crimson in color, the strong, classic Zinfandel aromas of briar fruit and wild strawberries jump out of the glass and are complemented by hints of wet forest floor and high mountain forest. The entry gives way to a rich and textured mid palate of Mexican chocolate, brambly raspberry and a lengthy, caramelized crème Anglaise finish. This wine is a unique expression of old vine Zinfandel grown in the gravel-rich alluvial soils at the base of the Mayacamas mountain range.

Rich, balanced, and elegant, the zesty flavors are reminiscent of the aromas with additional guava, Williams pear, Mirabelle plum and fresh almond notes. The strong mineral background, a stamp from our terroir, balances the overall richness and gives superb refinement. The finish is layered, extremely long and elegant. The 2016 L’Après-Midi will benefit from three years of cellaring.
Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir 2014Martin Ray planted Pinot Noir at Mount Eden in 1945; the budwood came from Paul Masson's original vineyard near Mount Eden. Because Masson was a good friend of the Louis Latour family of Burgundy, it is likely the selection came from one of Latour's vineyards and was brought by Masson to California during the 1880s. The faith Ray demonstrated in this difficult red wine variety, at a time when America had little appreciation of fine wine, was remarkable. Today, Pinot Noir vines occupy seven acres of the estate vineyard and typically yield a meager one to one-and-a-half tons per acre. Pinot Noir is the first variety harvested at Mount Eden, kicking off the vintage season. Using natural yeasts, fermentation is conducted in small open-top fermentors and extends ten to fourteen days, with the must punched down by hand. The new wine is immediately put into 75% new and 25% one-year-old French Burgundy barrels. It matures for 18 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Nothing is added; nothing is taken away.

Expect the 2014 Gemstone Estate Cabernet Sauvignon to evolve gracefully for 20+ years. Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot
