Walter Hansel Cuvée Alyce Chardonnay 2018
|Region||California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley|
This vineyard is the highest in elevation of all Walter Hansel’s estate vineyards, and the soil is a combination of gravel, and sand. This wine tends to be most opulent Chardonnay Walter Hansel produces, but in this year, it has the whole packet. Great floral aromatics, a wonderful core of stone fruits, and an incredible liquid mineral, and fruit finish. This wine sees 50% new French oak, and 50% 1-2-year-old French oak barrels.
The 2018 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce is rich and vivid, yet also light on its feet. A wine of real personality and character, the Alyce is intense and yet not at all heavy. Lemon peel, almond, dried flowers and sweet spice are all nicely lifted in a class, understated Chardonnay that will drink well with minimal cellaring.
