Catena Zapata Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

The Catena wines are a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards. Although we have found that most of the Catena wines are consumed shortly after release, we are pleased to see that they age beautifully for ten to twenty years. Through decades of study and exploration within Mendoza's high altitude mountain terroirs, the Catena family has identified special locations for its Estate vineyards. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity.

Wine AdvocateI found the 2013 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon superior to the 2012. It is fresher and has more focused, clean aromas and a livelier palate even though the fruit seems to have reached a better ripeness despite being a colder vintage. There are spicy aromas and a touch of ink. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good acidity and balance. You can drink it now but it will hold a few years in bottle. Some 280,000 bottles were produced.

Wine SpectatorRich and ripe, with good lift to the dark plum, cherry tart and brambly flavors, backed by vibrant acidity. Accents of green olive show on the zesty finish. Firm tannins. Drink now through 2019. 18,000 cases imported.

Wine EnthusiastFloral berry and plum aromas are touched up by notes of thyme and cardamom. Fresh grippy acidity keeps this lively, while flavors of berry and plum are spicy and suggestive of tomato sauce. Saucy, herbal flavors rise up on a high-acid finish.
