Carlisle Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2015

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

A nuanced, perfumed nose of confit fruits, sandalwood and rose petal. Bright, sleek and refined on the palate, reflecting both the vineyard's prized position on the eastern edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa (nature's "air conditioner" for the Piner/Olivet area) and the precision derived from the high percentage of Zinfandel in this post-prohibition planting - a clean expression of the variety. Plum preserves and baking spices mingle on the palate, with nutmeg notes leading the charge on the finish. Stunning. Drink 2019 - 2030.

Wine SpectatorA compelling wine, with expressive blackberry and briary underbrush aromas and refined yet evocative cherry, smoky mint and pepper flavors that linger toward plump tannins. Best from 2019 through 2027. 1,033 cases made.

Wine AdvocateA killer effort is the 2015 Zinfandel Papera Ranch, from a vineyard planted in 1934, and made from 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. This is a good-sized wine, given its 15.4% alcohol, but like all of Mike Officer's wines, the alcohol never shows. Moreover, he clearly gives the fruit plenty of attention so that it can strut its ripeness and full-bodied character, given the fact that he rarely uses more than 20-25% new French oak, and of course, the wines are bottled with no clarification by fining or filtering. This should drink well for up to a decade or more.

Wine EnthusiastFrom a site planted in 1934, and blended with 4% Carignan, this is an earthy pungent wine that is concentrated and approachable. Tobacco, dark cherry and dried herb mingle well along a velvety smooth palate of full-bodied ripeness.
