Wrath Fermata Chardonnay 2015
"Fermata" means halted in Italian and this wine is so named because we halt the secondary fermentation at its halfway point. This gives the wine richness but also preserves its acidity and energy.
The Chardonnay from our Estate vineyard is consistently rich and luxurious. It owes its heightened concentration to our climate, complex soils and demanding farming practices. By halting the malolactic fermentation at 50%, our Fermata Chardonnay counterbalances this wine’s inherent richness with its own natural acidity. Our 2015 features powerful aromatics ranging from lemon and lime to toast and crème brûlée. The palate delivers viscosity, structure and minerals.
Jeb DunnuckIts medium gold color is followed by a slightly tropical Chardonnay that offers plenty of mango and pineapple fruit as well as medium-bodied richness, nicely integrated acidity and a balanced style. It has a touch of toastiness on the finish, gains depth and purity with time in the glass and is an outstanding wine to drink over the coming 4-6 years.
VinousAromas of ripe pear, Meyer lemon and toasty lees, along with a subtle floral quality in the background. Fleshy and supple on the palate, offering concentrated orchard and citrus fruit flavors sharpened by a jolt of candied ginger. Shows very good depth and energy on the finish, where a late mineral flourish adds bite and focus.
Wine SpectatorThis has a silky texture, with flavors of Fuji apple, dried fig and pear that are creamy and rich. The buttery finish is well-spiced and plush. Drink now through 2021. 528 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Chardonnay Fermata offers up white peaches, spiced apples and lemon curd scents with touches of toasty oak and buttered bread. Medium-bodied with a pleasantly oily texture, it has a good amount of stone fruit and oak-laced flavors, finishing on a savory note.
