Wild blackberries, black cherries, redwood and graphite lift out of the glass and are followed by a potpourri of blueberry compote, macerated strawberries, purple flowers, bittersweet chocolate and espresso bean. There is a hint of menthol lifting through the center of the wine that fades when the wine spends more time in the glass. This is an intensely aromatic wine! As the wine opens up, it becomes more savory, with notes of black tea, black pepper, and pomegranate. The gravely, dusty cranberry finish is the signature of this bottling. Ripe and intense notes of Bosc pear, pineapple, tangerine and melon give this wine a luscious, inviting palate. This Chardonnay shines with a soft, clean finish, a hint of minerality and hard spice notes.

Alban Vineyards Patrina Syrah 2016Winery Note: While the grapes for Patrina are raised with the same detail and attentiveness as the rest of our vineyards, and then fermented open top with indigenous yeast, gentle pump overs and a few punch downs once soft, it is bottled unfined and unfiltered after ‘just’ 22 months in barrel to preserve its youthful exuberance. All the density and concentration folks have come to expect from our reds with black and blue fruits, mineral notes, and flowers.
Lucienne Lone Oak Pinot Noir 2017Winery Notes: Our 146-acre certified sustainable Lone Oak Vineyard sits at the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands where it is cooled by ocean breezes from the Monterey Bay. Morning fog lingers here while the wind picks up in the afternoon, leading to a long, cool growing season that allows grapes to slowly develop flavor and concentration. With gentle, east-facing slopes and elevations between 180 and 500 feet, the vineyard’s ancient alluvial soils assure excellent drainage. Just 20 acres of Lone Oak are devoted to Pinot Noir, creating an intensely aromatic wine with notes of citrus, cherry pie, toast, spice and a hint of earthiness. The complexity continues on the palate, with sleek cherry flavors, youthful balance, a round, soft texture and a long, structured finish.
Bevan Ontogeny 2017Winemaker Notes: In 2017, we used more Tench and Sugarloaf than ever before to make sure that Ontogeny had the richness and depth that it has become known for. Sugarloaf Mountain Cabernet Franc was perfect for this, lending a beautiful blueberry and tobacco base. From there, we used Tench Cabernet Sauvignon for power, a kiss of Wildfoote for exuberance and a barrel of Sentinel Ridge for a little mountain tannin.

Failla Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2018Winery Notes: In our ongoing quest for purity of expression we continue to shift toward more neutral élevage for this enjoy-it-young chardonnay: splitting half of the fruit between concrete egg and stainless steel vessels. The remainder fermented and aged in french oak, only 15% new and barely perceptible in the finished wine’s aromas of wet-stone, lime and oyster-shell. Malolactic fermentation provides a round, glycerin finish that balance the wine’s vibrant mouth-watering acidity.
