W&J Graham's Vintage Porto 2000 375mlWinemaker Notes : It is with great pleasure that Graham's announces the declaration of the 2000 Vintage, a wine that has been deemed to meet our very exacting standards, and one that shows every promise of living up to the reputation of the very best Vintage ports that the Twentieth Century provided. This is a landmark wine for Graham's, not only being the first Vintage of a new millennium, but being the first Vintage wine to enjoy the extraordinary results achieved by the new robotic 'lagares' at Malvedos in the inaugural year of our remodelled winery. Significant also has been the decision to include a rather larger proportion of mature Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional from Vila Velha, a classic riverside Quinta a short distance downstream from Malvedos, and some spectacular old vine lots from Vale de Malhadas in the Upper Douro. These wines each from family-owned Quintas have been used to reinforce the predominant component from Malvedos and the traditional excellence of the Rio Torto lots from Lages, to produce a rounded and even blend in the hallmark rich Graham style. Picking began at Malvedos on September 22nd and the last lagar was run off on October 10th, an unusually short and compact Vintage. Fruit arrived in good condition although yields were less than three quarters of a kilogram per vine, and the juice to skin ratio well below normal. 2000 was a year noted for a very low average yield across the Douro, and with the grapes unusually lacking in liquid, the extra amount of treading work required made it an ideal time to employ our new, tireless, mechanical treaders alongside the two original 1890 stone lagares still worked by human feet. It was evident early on in the Vintage from the colour and aroma of the fermenting musts that we were looking at a spectacular year, and after the usual waiting period of sixteen months or so to see how the lots would develop, we have now made our final selection and assembled the final blend. The blend displays many of the typical Graham aromas of ripe plum and 'esteva' (gum cistus) and is pleasantly smooth on the palate despite its youth. It is full and rich in the mouth with fresh blackberry and red plum notes. Despite the hallmark Graham sweetness in the mouth the finish is long and clean. As with all Graham Vintages, this is a wine made to last for years and the patience of laying down the wine for fifteen to twenty years will certainly be rewarded.

Red Stitch Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Tasting Notes: A blend of three Cabernet vineyards in Coombsville, the cool southern area of Napa, plus a touch of Malbec, this is a dense wine, chewy and opaque. It’s fragrant, highly expressive and savory on the nose: pungent cured olives; bay leaf. Despite its considerable size, it’s highly structured, with tannins and acid that have years of mellowing ahead of them, framing a core of brooding black fruit that hasn’t quite yet emerged in full force. A ripe, generous wine fit for a steak.

A perfect accompaniment to first courses such as seafood and shellfish.
Barnett Vineyards Rattlesnake Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014Winemaker Notes : The 2014 Rattlesnake is deeply purple and opaque in color. The nose is filled with blackberry, concentrated cassis and crushed violets, matched with cocoa nibs, black licorice, and anise. The viscosity and plushness of the wine are immense. The sizeable chalky tannins begin to emerge showing the wine's youthfulness. Blackberry puree, menthol, and dark cooking chocolate are predominant on the palate. The tannins are big but so is the wine overall, which demands time in the cellar. This immense yet beautifully balanced wine will age wonderfully over the next 18-20 years (2034-2036).

Domaine de L'Arlot Clos des Forêts Saint Georges 2015As is usually the case this is much earthier and more sauvage with its more deeply pitched aromas of various dark berry fruit, plum, floral and discreet humus nuances. There is notably more size, weight and power present to the markedly rich big-bodied flavors that are at once seductive yet quite serious on the clearly built-to-age finish. Recommended
Domaine de L'Arlot Nuits St Georges Clos des Forets St. Georges 2015Winery Notes: 'Clos des Forêts' is a single estate vineyard, known as 'monopole' in French, is home to vines of approximately 45 years old. This unique terroir covers 7.2 hectares, and is composed of multi-layered soils with clay, limestone and gravel. The grapes are hand picked, twice sorted (once on the vine, then at the crush pad after being picked). All transfers are made via gravity flow. By avoiding the use of pumps, the integrity of the grapes are better preserved. Domaine de l'Arlot takes a very hands off approach to winemaking. A wine for ageing: the generous terroir of the Clos des Forêts Saint Georges forms the soul of the wine. It builds a solid red around well present tannins which define a wine for ageing. A few years in the cellar will allow the wine to express itself more fully and make it more graceful, silkier and more complete. This wine is aged in roughly 45% New French Oak for 16 to 18 months.
Hess Select Treo Red Winemaker's Blend 2014Winemaker's Notes: Each year we select flavorful lots for a winemaker’s favorite past-time - blending. The art of blending is part of the winemaker's craft, an exercise that often proves the sum of the parts is a delicious outcome. We have a style in mind for our Treo blend, and this year Petite Sirah made up the backbone of the blend joined the mix of Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot and a hint of Malbec resulting in a wine that is rich and full of flavor. The red fruits are ripe and bold, but not overly so. Tannins are purposefully softer and easy drinking - we craft this blend to ensure the wine is accessible when you decide to open the bottle. Maybe that’s why it’s become so popular. Enjoy!

Blend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
Louis Roederer Cristal 2008Winemaker Notes: The 2008 vintage was characterized by an unusually dry and cool summer and undoubtedly falls into the ‘continental’ vintage category: dense and powerful owing to its exceptional concentration. Nevertheless, the unusually cool temperatures over the summer made their mark on the vintage, giving it a remarkable intense and saline freshness. Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen and toasted almond. The delicately seductive bouquet shows intensity and well-honed precision. The wine is powerful, full yet tight, on entry to the palate. The 2008 is undeniably well structured but in a particular way: the wine’s almost saline concentration has not been created by the sun, but is derived from the dryness of the chalk soil in a particularly cool summer. The result is a smooth, almost liquorous, mouthfeel that coats the palate with a powerful yet soft texture. This gives way to an incredible finish, underpinned by freshness and an impression of absolute purity with a taut and very saline character. This wine’s energy has been tamed by an unusually long period of bottle ageing: Cristal 2008 was in fact aged for 10 years before its release on the market. A first!
Penley Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Winery Notes: A bouquet of dark, berried, inky fruit with plenty of sawdusty/smoky oak. While it’s warm with alcohol it remains smooth, supple and persistent. I t’s all blackcurrant, bay leaves and aforementioned oak on the pallet. Tannin is fine-grained. This is a complete and harmonious wine with great persistence of flavor. Bright and delicious, speaking of contemporary Coonawarra Cabernet. Ready to drink now or for enjoying the rewards of cellaring for the next 5-7 years.

Its natural sugar and refreshing acidity blend harmoniously. Aerial and complex, this fruity wine is to be appreciated young, but can reveal itself graciously to the ones who wait.
Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux 2017Winery Notes: Yellow with reflections of gold, this mellow will cross the time and will satisfy gourmets and greedy in all the eras. Subtle nose where grapefruit and peach Vine form a delicate fruity duo. In the mouth the material is rich but tense, developing in turn the charms of cooked apricot, the freshness of mandarin and the tenderness of ripe papaya.
Rivers-Marie Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2016Winery Notes: The composition of our 2016 Napa appellation wine is very similar to the 2015 version: clones 4 and 6 from Panek, the lower block of Lore, Pellet Vineyard in St Helena and two blocks from Kennedy Vineyard on Franz Valley School Road in Calistoga. Even with no Herb Lamb or Larkmead in the blend, the wine still provides an early drinking insight into the character of the four vineyard designated bottlings from 2016. If 2015 was defined by fruit sweetness, this vintage is framed by ripe tannin. The fruit is a bit darker as well, leaning toward black fruits and thus a more serious seeming offering. The various defining attributes of the vineyard sources pop up throughout while experiencing the wine. The abundant fruit and acid cut of Panek’s valley floor location, the all black fruit, crushed rock minerality of Lore’s east Oakville range, the loamy purple fruit of Pellet’s west St. Helena corridor and the blue fruited cool climate savory-ness of Kennedy’s western Calistoga siting. Completeness best describes the overall experience. Fruit, tannin and acidity all come in waves of equal proportion while the tasting experience follows seamlessly from start to finish.
Bodegas Mas Alta Black Slate La Vilella Alta Priorat 2015Winemaker Notes : The inspiration for the Black Slate Project is a Burgundian concept of village nomenclature, applied to the Priorat. One region, nine historic villages, each with its distinct character, but all unmistakably Priorat. Sun-scorched vines cling to breathtakingly steep hillsides with their roots deeply plunged in the llicorella soils of this pristine, ancient region. Bodegas Mas Alta is a joint project with renowned Rhone negociant and winemaker, Michel Tardieu, and noted French enologist, Philippe Cambie. It is located in the middle of D.O.C. Priorat, based in the village of Vilella Alta. The estate vineyards are high density plantings at approximately 1050 feet above sea level, in front of Serra del Montsant, a mountain range thatreaches 3300 feet. Very steep and abrupt, the altitude, inclination, and slopes make a decisive influence on grape's maturity. The vineyards of La Viella Alta are situated on steep slopes of slates alongside of what once was the river of Escaladei. The heat of south-facing vineyards combing with the cooler north-facing parcels to create a well-balanced wine with ripe fruit and softness.
