2014 Long Shadows Pedestal Merlot

I loved the 2014 Pedestal Merlot and it’s 81% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. It offers a downright voluptuous and incredibly sexy style in its ripe blackcurrants, toasted spice, chocolate and licorice aromas and flavors. Broad, expansive, layered and pleasure bent, with ripe tannin, it's a knockout Merlot that's going to have 10-15 years of drinkability. $65 Our Price $56.95 (Back in stock 9/4/17)

2015 Caymus Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Notes: Caymus has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe, velvety tannins – as approachable in youth as in maturity. Our Cabernet offers layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis and ripe dark berries. $82 Internet Price $79.99. Grape Tray Insider Price $74.95

2013 Bookwalter Protagonist Cabernet Sauvignon

Another outstanding wine is the 2013 Protagonist (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) which spent 18 months in 50% new puncheons. It has a full-bodied, fresh, yet beautifully textured style to go with classic Cabernet notes of cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf and a kiss of bouquet garni. Like most of 2013s from Bookwalter, it’s relatively forward and charming, yet I suspect it will still evolve gracefully for at least a decade. Note, this cuvee comes from vines planted in 1987 and 1988. $60 Online Price $48.99. Grape Tray Insider Price $24.99 (Back in stock)

2014 Vice Versa Le Petit Vice Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Notes: This wine shows the extraordinary pedigree of its vineyards. Dark red. Pure, refined and enticing aromas of ripe black and blue berries, dark chocolate, bay leaf and spice. The palate is quite impressive with it's concentrated, expansive and mouth-coating texture. Pliant, mineral and pure with sophisticated ripe tannins leading to a long beautiful finish. $75 (Back in stock)

2014 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain

The sensational 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain (which is reasonably priced, given how superb it is) is her largest cuvée of just under 3,300 cases. It is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny quantities of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, Petit Verdot, and a real head scratcher, St. Macaire. Inky purple to the rim, with notes of white flowers, licorice, forest floor and graphite, this wine exhibits classic mulberry, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit notes, some background, vague oak, a full-bodied, beautifully proportioned mouthfeel, and a layered finish. Like most 2014s, it can be drunk now, but it has at least two decades of cellaring potential. $105 (Arrives 9/6/17)

Wine Spectator 96
