Wine Advocate 94+
2018 Paul Hobbs Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville

This is the first vintage for this label. In fact, this replaces the "Napa Valley" label, but since all the wine now comes from the Coombsville AVA (and mostly from their estate), it now carries the Coombsville name.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville is redolent of Morello cherries, boysenberries and cassis with hints of lilacs, cinnamon stick and dried herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate has vibrant black fruit flavors with a a soft texture and nice tension, finishing with a red fruit lift. 6,677 cases were made. $120 (Arrives VRW this afternoon)

Domaine Carneros Brut Carneros 2018

A vivacious sparkler that's elegant and polished, offering Asian pear and lemon flavors that take on hints of fresh ginger, blanched almond and brioche flavors that glide on the long, vibrant finish. Drink now. —T.F. $37 Our Price $32.69 (Available GT and VRW)

2016 Burgess Cellars CONTADINA Napa CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Winemaker Notes: A dense and concentrated cabernet with aromas and flavors of confectionary blackberry and stewed cassis. The lush fruit is brought into balance by high tone herbal aromatics of mint, sage, and sweet tobacco. The distinctively thick-skinned Cabernet grapes provide a long velvety finish. $52 Our Price $44.99 (Available GT and VRW)

2016 Heitz Cellars Lot C-91 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Brittany Sherwood, Director of Winemaking: While Joe pioneered the single vineyard movement in the Napa Valley, he recognized that you could convey a most pure and unique expression of place through the art of assemblage or blending. Lot C-91 was his proclamation, his testament to combining the power, elegance, and longevity of Cabernet Sauvignon coming exclusively from the single vineyards of Heitz Cellar. (Martha’s Vineyard-Oakville, Trailside Vineyard-Rutherford and Linda Falls-Howell Mountain)

Aged for nine months in large neutral casks and a combination of new and used French oak, the 2016 Lot C-91 exhibits the density and length of which only the truly great wines of the world are able to achieve. The presence of savory elements such as sage, rosemary, cured meats, and black pepper distinguishes this cuvée from any other. The conclusion of the Lot C-91 on the palate displays incredible complexity and harmony, and those who can afford to be patient will be rewarded for decades to come. $100 (Available VRW)

2018 Gabbiano Chianti Classico Cavaliere d'Oro

The 2018 Chianti Classico Cavaliere d'Oro is a soft, fleshy wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Dried cherry, cedar, tobacco and mint give this open-knit Chianti Classico a good bit of immediacy. The 2018 is not hugely complex, but it will drink well right out of the gate. $16 Liquidation Price $8.95 (Available GT) Limited to stock on hand.

2019 La Storia Alexander Valley Cabernet

Winemaker Notes: The 2019 La Storia Cab has a dense ruby-purple color followed by abundant varietal aromas and flavors of blueberries, blackberry, and black licorice with hint of herbs and minerals. The predominately French oak aging contributes aromas of cocoa dust, vanilla and smokey maple. The mouth feel is medium dense, fresh and juicy with balanced acidity and very soft tannins for a young wine. The alcohol content is balanced and the acidity is relatively high suggesting excellent longevity for this wine. Drink now or age for 5-7 years. Cheers. $30 Our Price $24.99 (Available GT and VRW)

2019 Dalla Valle Napa Collina Cabernet

The base 2019 Collina was originally made from the younger vines of the estate, yet those vines aren’t so young anymore, and this easily stands alone as a brilliant Bordeaux blend. Black cherries, currants, leafy herbs, and subtle floral notes all define the bouquet, and it’s darker, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced on the palate. It’s undeniably delicious and perfect for drinking over the coming 10-15 years. $115 (Arrives GT 5/11/22)

Certainly in the same league as the 2018, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is another full-bodied, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that has an incredible bouquet of red and blue fruits, sandalwood, crushed stone, and exotic spices. As with the 2018, it's flawlessly balanced and has a round, lush texture, supple tannins, and a great finish. 2018 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 is a fine addition to the lineage of one of Napa Valley's most historic wines. Inky red fruit, chocolate, leather and licorice all open in the glass. Aeration brings out floral top notes, raspberry and a hint of blood orange. There is plenty of depth, but the tannins are finer than they were a few years ago. Shorter time on the skins and a reduction in barrel fermentations really allow the pedigree of these Rutherford sites to come through. The 2018 is sensational. $150
