Winery Notes:

The flagship 2018 Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromatics of ripe black cherry, dried orange peel, and Mediterranean herbs. Silky upon entry, this wine is full-bodied and broad with mouth coating polished tannins. Showing grace and power, the winemaking style is ripe yet restrained – a bottle to enjoy now with proper decanting, but also one that will age for decades. The finish is persistent, with notes of dark chocolate and dried thyme lingering long after the last sip.

#9 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2021 Bright and fresh, with lots of red currant, plum and black cherry fruit notes driving along nicely, while a subtle tug of iron runs underneath. Late floral and warm earth flashes on the finish add more range and contrast. Focused, detailed and really well built. To be released October 2021. Best from 2022 through 2035. 1,260 cases made.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Crane Vineyard is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it strides confidently out of the glass with notions of crushed black and red currants, ripe blackberries and black raspberries plus hints of dried Mediterranean herbs, tilled soil and pencil lead. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black and red berries, framed by firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long with loads of minerals and an herbal lift.

A rich, opulent cabernet for 2018 with currant, chocolate and hazelnut, as well as cedar. Full-bodied red with round, soft tannins and a creamy texture at the end. I like the mineral, stone and walnut flavors at the end. Drink after 2022.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Crane Vineyard offers more density and depth, with lots of blueberry fruits as well as tobacco, chocolate, and gravelly earth-like notes. It's rich and medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins and outstanding length. It lacks some of the extra dimensions found in other wines from this great site, but it's certainly well-made, balanced, and should evolve for 10-15 years.
