Carlisle Papa's Block Syrah 2019
|Region||California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley|
Very dark purple. Opaque. A deep, redolent nose of blackberries, cassis, tar, white lilies, and fresh cream. Mouthwatering! Full-bodied but quite polished, the wine envelops the palate with oodles of dark berry fruit. Finishes quite long. Compared to Rosella’s, less tannic and a bit more opulent, relying more on acidity rather than tannin for structure. Enjoy from 2022 (with a decant) all the way to 2034.
Lastly, the 2019 Syrah Papa's Block is similarly inky-hued and boasts a big, juicy, unevolved bouquet of blueberries, ground pepper, bacon fat, and cedary spice. As with all of Mike's 2019s, it's beautiful on the palate and has silky tannins, full-bodied richness, and a great finish. It's a big, blockbuster-styled Syrah to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.
A wine that offers a true sense of place, this Syrah is loaded with personality, featuring blackberry and currant flavors that take on licorice, smoky game and black pepper accents, finishing with big but polished tannins. Drink now through 2032. 313 cases made.
