Frédéric Esmonin Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019
A smoky and restrained nose grudgingly reveals its notes of dark currant, red cherry, earth, game and a hint of underbrush. The supple yet intense medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the sleekly muscular, youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly warm finale. This balanced effort isn't quite as complex as the Ruchottes, at least not yet, though it might well catch it in time.
