Vilmart & Cie Grand Cellier d'Or Brut 2016
|Brand||Vilmart & Cie|
2016 is the current release for this great Cuvee from Vilmart, continuing its legacy as one of the great growers of Champagne. Vilmart is one of the top houses for grower Champagne and one of the few that makes a vintage Champagne every year. Much effort goes into the Grand Cellier d'Or, which comes from 50-year-old vines from sustainably farmed premier cru sites in Champagne's prestigious Rilly-la-Montagne area. A blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, this sees vinification in oak barrels and aged for 42 months on the lees.
Rich and luscious, with aromas of orange blossom, mint, herbs and spice, this wine has fullness, complexity, and great depth of flavor.
The 2016 Brut Grand Cellier d' Or is a gorgeous, ethereal Champagne that is all about grace. Floral and citrus notes abound in a weightless, translucent Champagne that has so much to offer. The 2016 is not an obvious wine at all. but rather a Champagne that dazzles with nuance and understatement. I loved it. Disgorged: July, 2020.
