A textbook Napa Cabernet, with the vintage's ripe, accessible cassis and blackberry puree profile on display, laced with singed vanilla and tobacco notes along the way. The generous finish lets a toasty edge play with the fruit. Drink now through 2031.

Sourced primarily from the Coombsville and Yountville AVAs and matured 21 months in about one-third new French oak (the rest goes mainly into second and third-use French barrels), the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts scents of cedar, cigar box and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied, dusty and tannic, rather than being charming or plush. On the savory, earthy side, with a dry, dusty finish, this really does need a steak (or some other red meat) to shine.
